Leapfrog is founded by four friends: Martijn Otten, Maarten Logtenberg, Mathijs Kossen and Lucas Janssen. Martijn stumbled across a problem in his family company AV Flexologic: he was in need for a spare part, but this was not available. He was familiar with the 3D printing technique and thought about how easy it would have been to print it out on the spot. He bought a 3D printer kit, assembled it together with Mathijs, but both were not satisfied. The kits were all very expensive for what you receive, could only print out small objects and were not fully assembled when bought.

At the same time, Maarten was already busy with the development of a 3D printer, because he wanted to develop a 3D printer that was affordable, fully assembled and would be able to print large objects. They started talking, Lucas Janssen joined and Leapfrog 3D Printers was born.
